![]() I have the warp for my red-and-black shawl ready to go and will wind it onto the loom today, if time permits. I’m still flipping through different issues of Handwoven to get inspiration – as eager as I am to get working on the intellectual parts of weaving, I’m also attracted to the idea of finished projects. My 3/2 yarn has not yet arrived, in fact I haven’t even gotten a shipping quote on it, so I’m going to do some “finished projects” while waiting for it to arrive. (By nonsensical I mean things that don’t make good cloth – long floats, etc.) I still don’t feel like I have enough of a grasp of different weave structures to devise a good curriculum for myself – perhaps it’s best to start with an all-purpose threading and see what develops from there. After that I want to see what happens with different tie-ups and treadlings and weaving styles (twill, satin/sateen, etc.) – not all of them will make sense with the threadings I’ve chosen, and I’m debating whether to do multiple weaving exercises (which would mean rethreading the loom several times) or to resign myself to making several “nonsensical” patterns in each row. I’ve laid out a trial gamp, with some common threadings, and have set up the first sample as a twill gamp. WeaveIt Pro has arrived, and I am feeling a trifle overwhelmed. (The floor is at an angle, so we’re laying down a sheet of plywood to form a horizontal platform to store boxes et al.) Hopefully we can get to this tonight – I’m eager to get stuff out of the living room, and so is Mike, who has been working hard to get things sorted and put away. ![]() ![]() Fortunately, a lot of it is going into storage downstairs, as soon as we finish upgrading the storage space so we can fit our stuff there. Well, Mike is now moved in, and predictably, there are boxes everywhere. ![]()
